People in our society have adopted bad habits of speech, leading to a tattering of our social fabric and both an inability and an unwillingness to engage with those outside of a pre-selected and safe circle. Building relationships begins, I think, with what Buddhism’s Noble Eightfold Path calls “Right Speech.” What might that look like today, and are there strategies we can employ to increase the chances of establishing meaningful connections across the ideological divide?
